This case study should highlight exactly why Fakro roof windows are a fantastic choice for both residential and commercial properties.
Fakro roof windows, self-build project in Scotland
In November 2018, the Town Planning and Architectural Consultancy, CMDesign, successfully finished a self-build for their client in Moray, Scotland. This project, ‘The Neuk’, was designed to allow two parts of the same family to live in close proximity, while having their own privacy. The use of Fakro roof windows was central to the design of the new living spaces. In particular, the use of Fakro FTU electric operated roof windows.
The Neuk consists of two adjoining homes with their own private shared courtyard. This area features a BBQ zone and uninterrupted views of the surrounding scenery. To make sure each home was the golden retreat their occupants had pictured, it was quickly decided that Fakro roof windows would be perfect. This was due to their thermal efficiency, exceptional design and build quality, and their ease of installation.
The windows used in the project were: Z-wave centre pivot windows (FTU P2), non-opening windows (FNU P2), standard centre pivot windows (FTU P2) and finally preSelect pitched roof windows (FPU P2).
Choosing Fakro
The Fakro electronic range of flat and pitched roof windows (Z-wave) was particularly suited for this project. Z-Wave electronic operation removes the need for manually opening a window, which is difficult with high ceilings. Moreover, the preSelect windows installed allow for flexibility in window type, which can be alternated between top hung and centre pivot at the flick of a switch, delivering easy 2-in-1 functionality.
Adding Fakro roof windows complemented the architecture of the home, too. It also helped to make the house a contemporary family home. This project is an inspirational example of the possibilities excellent architecture can deliver. It highlights how the right roof windows can accentuate natural light and enhance a home. It also demonstrates how Fakro’s solutions can help architects deliver both modern design and help link inside spaces to their surroundings.
“I don’t think there could have been a better solution for this build,” said Anna Carswel of CMDesign. “Fakro provided exceptional service and we are endlessly happy with the final results.”
